[USPRwire, Mon Feb 02 2015] In 2014, the on-going cocooning trend and the prevailing enthusiasm about home cooking continued to drive demand for food processors, and, to a lesser extent, countertop blenders. The multifunctionality of food processors made them the most practical kitchen aid. On the other hand, the high level of versatility that they offer was a strong deterrent to purchases of other simpler food preparation appliances. In their thrifty endeavour to reduce superfluous expenses, French households generally found it more convenient to have an “all-in” appliance, rather than enduring the fuss of handling multiple mono/duo-functional appliances. The positive performance for countertop blenders was primarily driven by warm blenders.
Competitive Landscape
Groupe SEB captured a 43% share of volume sales in food preparation appliances and maintained its leading position in 2014. Leveraging a diverse product line under its three reputable brands – Tefal, Moulinex and SEB – the company was able to capture demand from all different consumer segments. Except for juice extractors and countertop mixers, Groupe SEB was the leading player in all categories in food preparation appliances in 2014. Its two biggest challengers, De’Longhi France and Philips Electronique Grand Public, generated only a 7% share of volume sales each in 2014.
Over the forecast period, retail volume sales of food preparation appliances are likely to remain static. Growing demand for multifunctional food processors is expected to gradually push other simpler appliances into redundancy. Some of the categories in which manufacturers are still innovating, notably juice extractors and countertop blenders, will probably remain afloat. With growing competition coming from smaller players, the current valorisation trend in the category may not be sustainable over the next five years; value sales are set to see a negative CAGR of 2% at constant 2014 prices.
