New Extension Tool is Now Available to Performancing's Growing Community of Bloggers

[USPRwire, Tue Dec 20 2005] Performancing, a new organization dedicated to building the world's largest community of professional bloggers, today announced the beta version of its new Firefox extension blogging tool, Performancing for Firefox. The tool will be available for testing by Performancing's growing member base, and is slated for general availability by the end of Q1 2006.

Performancing's new tool was developed on Firefox's open source platform. Firefox is a free, cross-platform, graphical web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation and hundreds of volunteers. The goal of the Firefox project is to develop a lightweight, fast, intuitive and highly extensible standalone browser. Firefox is the most downloaded free and open source application, especially among home users, with more than two million downloads of its latest version within the first 36 hours of its release last month.

Performancing's new blogging tool will extend Firefox's functionality even further. Performancing for Firefox provides bloggers with a seamless interface to popular weblog platforms such as WordPress and MovableType. It allows them to post to their blogs from a split screen within the Firefox browser. It also features drag-and-drop functionality for more efficient blogging, enabling bloggers to easily insert text or graphics into their posts, and a "notes" tab that allows bloggers to take notes while building and researching posts. The final release of Performancing for Firefox will feature:

* WYSIWYG text editing
* Source text editing
* Drag and drop unformatted and formatted text and images into a blog
post
* Choice of formatting (bbcode, Textile, XHTML, etc.) for source editor
* Source-only editing (hide WYSIWYG and offer advanced formatting
options)
* Easy note taking -- ability to save any post as a Note and visa-versa
* Interoperability with other popular blogging platforms, frameworks and
APIs, including: WordPress, Blogger, Typepad, LiveJournal, Movable Type
API, Blogger and MetaWeblog
* Spell-check (in line spell checking using SpellBound)
* Page Information
* Open in window, tab or standard split-screen
* Extensible (API for extending the extension)

"We're all Firefox users at Performancing, and essentially we just wanted to build something that we could all use and make available to our members. We've had a great team of developers working on this tool, and as a beta, we're really proud of it," said Nick Wilson, founder of Performancing.

Pricing and Availability

Performancing for Firefox will be available free of charge. Performancing members will be invited to beta test new builds, and help shape the way Performancing for Firefox works. Performancing for Firefox will be open to development by anyone that chooses to extend its functionality by end of Q1 2006.
