Wheelabrator Group, a leading supplier of surface preparation solutions, upgrades 30-year-old Wheelabrator 28 Super Tumblast during Equipment Modernization Program overhaul.
[USPRwire, Mon Mar 12 2007] A casting facility founded in the early 1900s in the mid West produces competitively priced quality castings and delivers them on time.
Recently the company made the decision to update its more than 30-year-old Wheelabrator 28 Super Tumblast® machine. The Tumblast machine is an integral part of the operation, running two and a half shifts per day. The existing wheel was worn out, and they wanted to utilize the newest technology to increase production time while decreasing maintenance down time.
Wheelabrator Sales Representative Paul Good states, “We completed a full Equipment Modernization Program (EMP) overhaul for the company – that included replacing an old style door, scalping drum and wheel assembly. We basically took them from the old Super I style machine to a new Super III with the latest tumblast technology.” The old 40 hp wheel was replaced with a new 40 hp EZEFIT wheel.
A maintenance superintendent with the plant said that the new wheel enabled production to increase by 25 percent by reducing cycle times. Company managers were extremely satisfied with the low maintenance and the machine’s performance.
The machine’s old two-piece door was warped and worn from years of running at maximum capacity. Modernizing the machine to the new Super III robustly designed one piece door arrangement eliminated the lower closing plate, which has a tendency to warp and jam on the older machines. The new heavy duty door has a heavy lining of manganese steel and works well with the large castings produced by the company. The door includes a new mechanical drive lifting assembly that is easier to maintain and faster to operate than the old style cable drive system. The new door’s labyrinth seal provides a much tighter seal with virtually no shot leakage.
The old style scalping drum that removes the heavy refuse from the abrasive was replaced with a new one-piece rotary screen arrangement improving performance and allowing easy replacement of the screen when it wears.
The EMP retrofit was completed in six days by the Wheelabrator PLUS service team during the factory’s Christmas 2005 shutdown period.
The EZEFIT™ family of wheels offers the latest technology in wheel design that reduces maintenance cost and improves productivity. The inherent advantage of bi-directional rotation and the ability to be used in clockwise or counterclockwise wheel applications with a single style wheel can lower parts inventory costs. Wheelabrator has capitalized on this advantage with a direct-drive design that offers standard or custom base mounting for increased versatility. EZEFIT wheels are available in 3-1/2” or 2-1/2” blade widths. A variety of wheel diameters from 13” to 27” with 3600 RPM and 1800 RPM versions are offered in order to meet any application
TARGETLOK®, now a standard feature on all EZEFIT wheels, insures consistent blast pattern targeting no matter how many time the tune-up kits are changed.
TARGET-TRAK™, a new feature that allows the control of blast pattern targeting from the control panel, provides the ability to adjust the blast wheel targeting for more efficient blast performance.
