Brushing teeth once or a maximum twice a day is considered to be the norm, although one in 10 residents claim to have no set brushing routine. Trends in 2015 included visiting the dentist only when in pain, not visiting the dentist for routine check-ups and only brushing teeth without using an additional mouthwash or similar product. This led to an increase in the number of mouth infections and gingivitis. Lifestyle patterns, such as a lack of time for oral health and stress, also contributed to increased incidents of stomatitis (aphthous ulcers/aphtha) amongst the country’s adult population.

Competitive Landscape

Reckitt Benckiser maintained its leading position in adult mouth care with a 24% value share in 2015. The global player continued to take full advantage of the high brand equity of its Bonjela. Mundipharma International with its Betadine Mouth Wash remained the second most important player, with a value share of 10% in 2015, followed by Johnson & Johnson Middle East and its Oraldene brand, with an 8% value share.

The forecast period is expected to record stable growth with a value CAGR of 3% at constant 2015 prices as only basic oral hygiene is expected to improve. The adult population will maintain oral hygiene primarily by brushing their teeth twice a day.
