New Food research report from Euromonitor International is now available from Fast Market Research

[USPRwire, Fri Nov 14 2014] In 2013 overall street stalls/kiosks recorded a current value decline of 2%, due to the poor performance of chained street stalls/kiosks. The channel registered a decline in 2013 as a result of the disappointing performance of Taze Misir Gida ve Dis Ticaret Ltd Sirketi, which owns Daily Fresh. The company decided to close down its own outlets due to high shopping mall rents, and only continued with franchised outlets. The number of outlets owned by the company dropped from 99 in 2012 to 40 in 2013, leading to a significant decline in sales.

Competitive Landscape

The first chained brand to emerge in street stalls/kiosks was Daily Fresh – a Malaysian chain operated by Taze Misir Gida ve Dis Ticaret Ltd Sirketi in Turkey, established in 2006. Another leading chained brand, Choc’nette, entered in 2008 and increased its value share to 21% in 2013, up by eleven percentage points on the previous year, as it had no direct competitors at the end of the review period. The share of Daily Fresh, on the other hand, dropped to 20% in 2013, from 37% in 2012, due to many independent companies offering similar products, and increased shopping mall rents. A local brand, Corn in Cup, became the leading player in chained street stalls/kiosks in 2013 with a 22% value share, after Daily Fresh closed down outlets other than franchised operations.

Industry Prospects

Street stalls/kiosks is expected to see declining sales, with a negative value CAGR of 3% over the forecast period at constant 2013 prices, as it is expected that the value sales of independent street stalls/kiosks will decrease significantly as a result of government measures to restrict the presence of unlicensed street stalls for reasons of hygiene. However, the rate of decline is expected to slow down, because the municipalities of large cities are expected to provide operators with special portable vehicles in order to regulate them.
