In February 2014, the Oman Daily Observer cited an unnamed official from the Ministry of Tourism as saying that tourist arrivals were up by 6% in 2013. This growth, if confirmed by the release of final figures, would be just above BMI's own forecast of 4%.

In 2013, total passenger traffic (including transit and transfer passengers) through Muscat rose by 10% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 8,310,927 passengers, according to a report by the Oman News Agency. The number of arriving passengers was up by 9% y-o-y, at 4,179,863. However, the number of departing passengers was up by 12%, at 4,086,300. These figures tie in with BMI's own view that outbound tourism will show a stronger growth rate (+27.6%) than inbound tourism (+19.2%) over the 2014-2018 forecast period.

In February 2014, Arabian Business reported that Omani hotels had registered an 11% rise in revenue across 2013, according to figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The NCSI report found that the total revenues of 31 four- and five-star hotels reached OMR149.3mn (USD387.8mn) in the reported period, compared with OMR134.5mn (USD348.45mn) in 2012. The statistics also revealed that the total number of hotel guests in 2013 rose by 10.8%, to 614,000, compared with 554,000 in 2012. Occupancy rates were also strong at the high end, with five-star hotels posting an overall occupancy rate of 60.6% for 2013, up from 55.3% in 2012, and four-star hotels seeing an increase in occupancy rate of 5.1%, to 56.7%.
