The first wave of local currency devaluation took place in December 2014 in Russia. Prices went up and Russians looked for ways to invest their money in order not to lose it. Many consumers decided to spend their money on consumer appliances, which resulted in growing volume sales of microwaves in 2014. The second wave of local currency devaluation took place in early 2015, and volume sales started to decline. Consumers are afraid to spend money due to uncertainty in the region and drastically growing unit prices. All this led to a sharp decline in volume sales of microwaves and other consumer appliances in Russia in 2015.
Competitive Landscape
Samsung Electronics Rus OOO led sales of microwaves in 2015 with a 25% volume share. Samsung is one of the most recognisable brands in Russia.
