The short-term outlook for the Japanese tourism industry is encouraging, but we will not see the same levels of growth enjoyed over 2012-2014 when the industry recovered from the 2011 Tsunami damaging the level of inbound arrivals into the country. However, growth is still strong, especially compared to many other regional peers, as the weak yen is making travelling to the country significantly cheaper. On the other side of the equation, this also means the Japanese will travel abroad slightly less in the short-term, but this will pick up from 2016 onwards. The government has also loosened regulation around budget airline travel, which should push down prices as competition increases across the region and increase travel across the board.
