+1 Water first in Canada with biodegradable compostable water bottle.
The +1 Water™ “bio-bottle”, a first in Canada.
[USPRwire, Thu Feb 01 2007] Montreal based +1 Water™ bottled water company announced it is the first and only company in Canada to use a petro-chemical free, biodegradable and fully compostable plastic water bottle. The company has taken the philosophy of environmental protection and social justice underlying fair trade commerce, and applied it to the bottled water industry. In addition to introducing the environmentally friendly "bio-bottle", +1 Water™ has established co-branding agreements with Operation Hunger, South Africa, and WaterCan, and Ryan’s Well Foundation in Canada. Twenty per cent of +1 Water’s profits will go to support water development projects undertaken by these organizations.
With Canadian bottled water sales growing at close to 20% a year, and Quebec ranking first in Canada with respect to both fair trade commerce and consumption of bottled water, +1™ believes the time is right to provide a product which will respond to both the growing demand for water and socially responsible products.
+1 Water™ has also established an ingredient branding agreement with NatureWorks LLC™, developers of the patented process that turns corn into NatureWorks ® branded polymer, polymerized lactic acid, the basis of the +1™ bio-bottle. As well as being biodegradable, the +1 Water™ bio-bottle is recognized as a greenhouse-gas neutral product that requires up to 68% less energy to produce than regular plastic bottles. In addition, unlike commonly used plastic water bottles, the +1Water™ bio-bottle contains no petroleum bi-products or the potentially toxic chemical antimony that has been shown to leach into the water of some PET plastic bottles.
The +1 Water™ website http://plusonewater.ca provides useful links to
information on the global state of fresh water as well as to organizations involved in water development projects, composting and recycling of beverage bottles.
The +1™ advantage provides consumers with an environmentally friendly bottle of water that lets them satisfy their thirst with certified natural spring water while giving others the means to access safe, clean, water too.
