The homewares category has struggled with persistently slow GDP growth in the Mexican economy, which has made consumers limit their expenditures and budgets. During 2014, GDP growth was slightly higher at 2.1% than the 1.4% during 2013; however, this slow GDP growth combined with very low consumer confidence, various price increases introduced in many different products and industries at the start of 2014, as well as other factors, made homewares categories struggle to achieve any major growth. The competitive environment is highly fragmented and only one company held a 2-digit value share in 2014. CRISA SA de CV held an 11% value share, thanks to its strong presence in categories such as beverageware, dinnerware, kitchenware and stove top cookware. CRISA owns leading brands such as Crisa, Libbey and Pyr-o-rey, which hold primary positions in each category where they belong, and the company’s products are available via grocery retailers and mixed retailers across Mexico. Second position was held by Tupperware de México, which accounted for 9% of value sales during 2014, due to its widespread sales across the country through its direct sellers.
