Open Door Resumes (www.OpenDoorResumes.org), a boutique professional resume writing company, is offering the top five tips to help job seekers in their search for a professional resume writer.

In today’s highly competitive job market many professionals are seeking help to stand out, including professional resume consultants and writers. Tanya Ross, owner of Open Door Resumes wants to help job seekers in their search for the right resume writer.

“We hear it so much that it’s beginning to sound cliché, ‘job seekers have saturated the market,’” she said. “The sad reality is that many job seekers look similar on paper. Because your resume and supporting cover letter may be your only opportunity to give the best possible first impression, finding the right professional resume writer is a critical decision.”

Here are Ross’ five tips to consider when hiring a professional resume writer:

1. Ask to see samples of their work ??" before AND after ??" so you can make sure they're not just a glorified secretarial pool formatting your existing resume and making minor changes, but they're actually revising and upgrading resume content.

2. Do they have a professional-looking website? Websites and resumes are both about marketing, and if their website doesn't look professional, what does that say about their attitude toward marketing and how they are going to represent YOU in your resume?

3. Ask about turnaround times: How long is it going to take for them to get you a draft of your resume for review? Does their turnaround time sound reasonable based on the quality of work they do? (see #1)

4. What modes of communication are they able/willing to use to communicate with you during the writing process? Will at least one of your interviews with them (preferably the first) be in person, or at least by video conference or phone? It's almost impossible to get to know someone's personality through email, and your resume needs to represent YOU and your personality, not just the resume consultant’s writing skills.

5. What do their clients say about them? Are they easy to work with? Are they responsive to phone calls, emails, etc.? How do clients feel about the value provided (the quality of the final resume compared to the price they paid for it)? If a resume writer has a website but does NOT have customer testimonials on it, ask them to provide you with references from former clients.
