G. Michael Gruber, founding partner of the Dallas litigation firm of Gruber Hurst Johansen & Hail, has earned the 2009 Foundation Award of Excellence from the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Foundation. The award, presented annually since 2003, honors a Fellow of the DAYL Foundation for notable service to the legal and charitable communities. Mr. Gruber received the award at the DAYL Foundation Annual Luncheon on Dec. 1, 2009.
“Mike’s dedication to making a difference in this community has impacted multiple organizations and hundreds of lives, and sets an example for everyone in the legal community,” says Penny Brobst Blackwell, Chair of the DAYL Foundation.
Mr. Gruber’s numerous leadership roles in Dallas-area organizations include previous or current service as a Director of the Catholic Foundation Advisory Board, Dallas Zoological Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, North Texas Entrepreneur Foundation, and North Texas Region of Big Brothers Big Sisters. In addition, he previously served as Chairman of the Dallas Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee, Bench Bar Book Committee, and Judicial Poll Committee.
Widely known for his work in defense matters, Mr. Gruber has posted several of the largest verdicts, settlements and judgments in Dallas County. Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, he has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list each year since 2003, and is consistently recognized in the publication as one of the Top 100 attorneys in Dallas-Fort Worth and the entire state. Additionally, D Magazine has included Mr. Gruber as one of the Best Lawyers in Dallas.
Mr. Gruber earned his law degree from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where he also earned his undergraduate degree.
The DAYL Foundation, a 501 c3 organization, was established in 1988 to provide support for law-related matters. Since 1999, more than $90,000 in grants has been given by the Foundation to various charitable and educational programs sponsored by non-profit organizations in the Dallas area. The Fellows program was created in 2001 as a way for Dallas attorneys to give back financially to the community.
