[USPRwire, Tue Mar 17 2015] In 2015, BMI forecasts total vehicle sales in Poland to expand 4.8% to 418,492, representing a slowdown in growth after a projected increase of 13.1%, in 2014. This comes on the back of a forecasted expansion of 5.0% in passenger car sales and a return to positive growth in the commercial vehicle (CV) segment which will increase by 3.5%.
In the passenger car segment, the country's improving consumer sentiment is increasingly filtering through to big-ticket purchases such as new cars. Despite a large decline in the early part of 2013, the country's car market has seen a resurgence over 2014 with sales projected to expand by 16.0% to 336,299 units. Improving employment levels and continued consumption growth will mean that sales momentum will carry through to 2015 when sales will expand by a further 5.0%.
In 2015, we maintain our forecast for the LCV segment to increase 3.8% and the heavy truck segment to increase 2.8% over the year. This will come off the back of acceleration in the country's real GDP growth to 3.1%, helped by growing private consumption and fixed investment. This will follow the stale performance of 2014 where investment in the country's manufacturing sectors in H114, growing private consumption and an uptick in corporate and private lending in H214 were not enough to stimulate sales above 2013 levels. This was due to high base effects from December 2013's boom in CV sales in anticipation of new Euro-6 regulations.
Vehicle production has declined sharply in Poland in recent years; passenger output is the main driver in volumes terms, and it is mostly export-orientated. Sales across Europe, the country's main trading partner, have been generally weak and sales volumes remain low. Having said that, however, the regional passenger car market has shown some signs of resurgence in recent months, and this has helped moderate declines in Poland vehicle output. CV production is primarily for the domestic market, and this has remained fairly strong...
