Wheelabrator Offers Training at The Bayou Companies’ New Iberia, La., facility

Wheelabrator Group offers Operations and Maintenance classes at the Bayou Companies' New Iberia, La., facility.

[USPRwire, Tue Mar 13 2007] As part of the overall goal to increase customer satisfaction, Wheelabrator Group continues to offer Operations & Maintenance (O&M) classes. During Regional O&M training, Wheelabrator provides detailed instruction in the fundamentals of wheelablast systems, operator training and proactive maintenance solutions. In-plant training is specifically tailored to meet the customer’s specific operation and maintenance requirements.

Wheelabrator Group recently held an in-plant O&M training seminar at The Bayou Companies’ New Iberia, La., facility. This 50,000 square foot fusion bonded epoxy pipe coating facility was built in 1989 and was extensively upgraded in 2006 after Hurricane Rita ravished the Louisiana Gulf Coast. In the past 35 years, 26,000 miles of pipe for the oil and gas line industry have been processed at the company’s New Iberia and Baton Rouge, La., facilities. Pipe processed by The Bayou Company is received both domestically and from foreign countries, including Mexico, Japan, Italy and India.

The Bayou Companies New Iberia facility utilizes two Wheelabrator® Upblast Pipe Machines, which remove rust and scale from the steel pipes prior to coating. These machines, which can clean pipe from 2 to 24 inches in diameter, eliminate the environmental problems and high labor costs associated with manual air blasting. Additionally, two new Wheelabrator machines featuring innovative designs are being installed to assist production at the New Iberia facility.

Because of The Bayou Companies’ commitment to employee education and constant improvement of its facilities, the New Iberia facility asked Wheelabrator to conduct an O&M training on site. During the O&M training, participants included operators, maintenance technicians, production managers and purchasing staff who work with Wheelabrator machines.

Wheelabrator Technical Services Specialist Bob Schoen, evaluated the blasting and process criteria required at the New Iberia plants through open discussion with the attendees prior to the technical portion of the session. The training and technical discussions revolved around the strengths and weaknesses of these needs. To reinforce classroom training, Schoen and the class attendees conducted a hands on assessment of the Wheelabrator machines using the improved operator and maintenance recommendations made during the classroom training. The Wheelabrator machines received inspections of the reclaim systems, blast wheels and cabinet conditions and were reviewed for wear and efficiency. Additionally, Schoen met with the New Iberia engineering department to further discuss the department’s needs and potential EMP.

The O&M training helped improve operating efficiency and gave employees an opportunity to perform hands-on maintenance with trained Wheelabrator professionals. Eldridge Indest, Director of Operations, at the New Iberia facility, said “This class was nothing short of excellent. I polled the people who attended and got only positive feedback. This, in my opinion, is what customer service is all about.”

Wheelabrator offers O&M training at any customer’s plant site. Special process and component training sessions are available by special request. For more information about O&M training, call 1-800-544-4144.
