Free download supports data center transformation initiatives
[USPRwire, Tue Nov 18 2008] Tideway, one of the fastest growing providers of IT automation software, today launched the beta version of Tideway Foundation™ Community Edition, a free, downloadable version of Tideway’s award-winning automated discovery and application dependency mapping software, Tideway Foundation. Users can now deploy Tideway Foundation for free in their own IT environment to accelerate cost-saving initiatives like server consolidation, virtualization, and data center migrations.
Foundation automates data center discovery to provide a complete, accurate inventory of all servers, software and applications, as well as crucial inter-system dependencies and relationships. It identifies vulnerabilities and lets users take the cost and risk out of any critical data center project to deliver on time and on budget.
The Tideway Community Edition is a free, fully functional version of Tideway Foundation that allows users to shallow-scan their complete IT estate and deep-scan an additional 30 hosts. A ‘shallow’ scan is a network-only scan, requiring no credentials, that reports the existence of a network node and makes some guesses about the type of node it is. A ‘deep’ scan fully scans the attributes of each node by logging in with credentials.
Support for the Foundation Community Edition is available through the Tideway Community Forum and Configipedia. Configipedia is a collaborative online resource and social networking site for Tideway customers, partners and the IT community at large to share best practices, content, and configuration management intelligence openly, including up-to-date patch, vulnerability, and license information for common data center assets.
In beta since September, Foundation Community Edition has already been downloaded by global enterprises in the finance, telecoms and retail sector. The detailed infrastructure intelligence is being leveraged to drive myriad data center transformation initiatives, including: data center moves, software license audits, and server consolidation.
