[USPRwire, Wed May 09 2007] Dr. Catherine L. Ross, the director of Georgia Tech’s Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD), will present "Sustainability, Mobility and the Megaregion” with members of the Henry Council for Quality Growth at the next luncheon meeting Wednesday, May 16, at 11 a.m.
CQGRD is an applied research center that studies solutions that help society achieve a sustainable, equitable, superior quality of life. The center’s mission is to produce, disseminate and help implement new ideas and technologies that improve the theory and practice of quality growth.
Dr. Ross’ presentation will focus on emerging “megaregions” in the United States and the challenge of providing mobility while assuring a sustainable future and a high quality of life.
“Dr. Ross is one of the experts in the Atlanta area in the field of quality growth, and we are very fortunate to have someone with such experience and strong credentials speak with our council members,” said Steve Cash, executive director of the Council. “I personally am very excited to hear her presentation.”
CQGRD brings together the expertise and necessary resources to develop innovative, responsible, and efficient solutions to achieve quality growth. Its work focuses on five areas: community design and architecture; air quality and the natural environment; healthy places; land development and transportation and infrastructure. The Center works with the governmental, legal, health, engineering, architecture, environmental, policy, planning, and non-profit communities to create and promote a new vision and form for cities, suburbs, exurbs, and rural places.
Prior to joining CQGRD, Ross served as the first executive director of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), which was created to help counties out-of-compliance with clean air standards develop new plans and initiatives to help them meet or exceed requirements. She also founded a consulting company that has conducted research for numerous government transportation agencies. She has published extensively in the fields of urban planning, transportation planning and public participation and has served on numerous local and national urban and transportation planning boards and committees.
The Council holds monthly meetings to educate members, local elected officials and business leaders on the Council’s pursuit of continued balanced and responsible growth.
The meeting, which is sponsored by United Community Bank, begins at 11 a.m. for networking with the luncheon following at 11:50 a.m. The luncheon is $20 for HCQG members and $35 for non-members. For additional information, call 770-898-9076.
