SPARC: Surface Preparation Academic Resource Center program is geared to contractors, coatings specifiers and architects/engineers.
[USPRwire, Mon Mar 26 2007] Blastrac Global continues to experience much success with its Surface Preparation Academic Resource Center classes, which will be offered in 2007 during the following dates: May 15-17, June 12-14 and July 10-12.
SPARC is a surface preparation training program taught by factory experts skilled in Blastrac® equipment and Sawtec® hand tools. The classes are beneficial to anyone in the surface preparation industry, from beginners to highly experienced technicians.
The class teaches participants what kind of surface preparation equipment to use and when to use them for different applications, allowing participants to lower operating costs and to be more efficient. “SPARC takes the mystery out of the surface preparation process,” said Jonn Rippman, Blastrac National Training Manager
Participants arrive at the Blastrac factory in Oklahoma City for the three-day class on Monday night and leave Thursday evening. SPARC is taught by Rippman and Scott Coffey, Product Manager of Scarifying and Scraping. Matt Shorrock, Product Manager of Wheel Blast Equipment, and Jason Root, Product Manager of Diamond Tooling and Sawtec, also instruct the course.
Class sizes are usually 15 people or less, and customized training sessions are available for companies that want multiple employees trained simultaneously on the best applications for surface preparation products. Jeff Bair, District Manager of the Texas Gulf Coast for Sunbelt Rentals Corporation, recently attended SPARC with 18 of his fellow coworkers. The Sunbelt employees were divided into two groups during the class, allowing participants to receive personalized instruction during the three-day period.
“We trained our employees on the processes of surface preparation and the rental opportunity for equipment,” Bair said. “SPARC was an excellent class that offered hands-on experiences. This helped us retain the knowledge we learned. Although I was familiar with Blastrac products, I learned new information within the concrete surface preparation industry.”
Wayne Anderson, President of Rite Way Floors LLC in Riverside, Mo., has been in the epoxy and urethane coatings industry for 25 years, and he said he was amazed at all the information offered during SPARC. In addition to learning from instructors, participants can ask questions amongst their peers to learn more about issues that arise on job sites.
“The exposure to fellow class members gives participants another learning edge. SPARC also gives participants an opportunity to use equipment they don’t own but they may need on future jobs,” Anderson said.
SPARC is a comprehensive training program on popular surface preparation methods and equipment. The course is designed for contractors, coatings specifiers, facility owners, architects, engineers and others involved with application, specification or use of coatings. The three-day program includes discussion of common surface preparation methods such as shot blasting, diamond grinding, scraping, milling and scarification. Participants are taught when to use different surface preparation techniques, based on job site characteristics, specified coatings, desired results and costs. The instructor also includes discussion of industry standards and testing methods. Students’ training is focused primarily on intensive hands-on instruction, including training in the start-up, use and maintenance of equipment.
