[USPRwire, Mon Oct 02 2006] The American Basketball Association’s Miami Tropics completed open tryouts on Sunday and are ready to prepare for their inaugural season at a veterans training camp beginning on October 16th at the Sunset Lakes Community Center in Miramar, Florida. Seventeen candidates will vie for a spot on the active roster and judging by the action seen over the seven days of the three tryouts, competition should be fierce.
With only player/coach Carlos Escalera inked to a contract, the others will be battling each other for the remaining nine spots on the roster.
Joining Escalera at the camp are sixteen players who have been invited back by the club to attend the two week tip off to the 2006-07 season. Those players are:
Jeff Aubry Kenneth McKenzie
Marcus Barnes Shawn McMillan
Louis Benson Sylbrin Robinson
Malcolm Campbell Karel Rosario
Jonathan Castillo Terrence Shellman
Kotkenya Cullins Andre Smith
Rodrigue Djahue Jarrod Stockton
Carmelo Antrone Lee Eric Wilkins
“After observing these guys play for some 20 hours, we’re confident we have the right mix of guards and bigs from which to choose our team,” said Head Coach Ed Auricchio. “It was tough to cut down to this number and will only get more difficult to arrive at the final roster. They left everything they had out on the floor and I expect nothing less when camp begins.”
With the season opener set for November 11th, the coach is planning on having his active list set by October 20th. That will give him three weeks to have his club ready for the Tampa Bay Strong Dogs in the Tropics’ first ever ABA contest.
