The Red Race is On: China and Russia Plan Mission to Mars, Iran made member of China-Russian led Coo
“The Red Race is on,” stated 2008 leading Independent Presidential Candidate Daniel Imperato. “China and Russia are strengthening ties with regional allies in an effort to bolster their own power and decrease US influence in Asia.”
[USPRwire, Wed Sep 13 2006] Last week, China and Russia unveiled plans to launch a joint mission to Mars in 2009 to scoop up rocks from the red planet and one of its moons.
Russia will launch the spacecraft, while China will provide the survey equipment to carry out the unmanned exploration, said Ye Peijian, a senior scientist at the Chinese Academy of Space Technology in Beijing.
The mission will be another step in China's ambitious program to jump to the forefront of space exploration.
“This is another sad situation for America because of our lack of dedication to the sciences and space exploration along with political bickering in Washington, D.C. over NASA and budgets. We have allowed ourselves to fall technologically behind other nations, but most importantly, we have turned the collaborative process of space exploration and scientific development into a race of nations. This situation is similar to the space race during the Cold War,” stated Imperato.
In other alarming news, according to a Central Asia News Brief by the IPWR, Russia, acting under the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) conducted joint military exercises with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in response to US military threats in the region, including planned attacks against Iran.
Reports from the region indicate that Russia is leaning more and more towards the Iranian view that countries from outside should be banned from having armed forces in the Caspian Sea.
“While America sits back and allows Russia to be the nuclear watchdog for Iran, Russia has begun to show that it shares Iranian views of western participation in the region. In addition, Russia, along with China, is the main supplier of weapons and materials to Iran and Syria. We are once again moving towards a global society of foreign entanglements and treaties that could have a very negative impact on the security of the world,” said Imperato.
While Iran is not a member of the CSTO, it has observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), of which China is a member. The SCO has a close relationship to the CSTO.
The structure of military alliances is crucial. In case of an attack on Iran, Russia and its CSTO allies will not remain neutral. In April, Iran was invited to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Currently, Russia is contemplating the installation of a Navy base in Syria on the eastern Mediterranean coastline. The US and Israel have military cooperation agreements with Azerbaijan and Georgia.
“What is being setup here is war. After the Cold War we had the opportunity to make Russia our ally and most importantly a full-fledged democracy. Instead, we provided little support and allowed Russia to struggle economically. Now the socialist party has regained its foothold in Russia. They have regained their economic strength through the sales of old weapons and technology, and now, Russia has an ax to grind the United States.”
In other recent developments India and Russia have signed on August 20th, a far-reaching military cooperation agreement. Although not officially directed against the US, the purpose of this agreement is understood. The two countries have "agreed to focus on joint war games in services-to-services interaction, joint development of new weapons systems and training of Indian military personnel", (Press Trust of India, 21 August 2006).
