Sharp Residential Does More Than Build Homes

Sharp Residential is pleased to be sponsoring the Inaugural Music for Megan Charity Benefit Event on September 28 at Wills Parks Equestrian Center in Alpharetta. The event will raise money for The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.

[USPRwire, Wed Aug 01 2007] Sharp Residential builds well crafted, quality homes throughout the metro Atlanta area, and has done so for over 16 years. While the company’s main focus is home building, President Tom Sharp also has a strong interest in helping others in need. On September 28, the Inaugural Music for Megan Charity Benefit Event will take place at Wills Parks Equestrian Center in Alpharetta to raise money for The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. The event is being held in the honor of Megan Sheridan, a young girl who has been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, and Sharp is proud to be a Copper Sponsor for the event.

“Not much is known about mitochondrial disease, and there currently are no proven treatments for the disease nor is there a cure,” said Sharp. “When I first learned about Megan, a sweet four year old with this horrible disease, I knew I wanted to help in some way. Music for Megan should be a fun event for the entire family, and I hope others will be compelled to donate their time or money to this worthy cause.”

Megan was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, a genetic disorder that impairs the workings of the mitochondria, at the age of 16 months. Mitochondrial are the parts of the cell that create the energy the body needs to function, and when they do not produce 100 percent of the energy they should, there are severe ‘power’ failures in the body. Megan’s disease has caused her to have developmental delay, muscle weakness, gastrointestinal problems, severe gastro-esophageal reflux, slow growth, sensory processing disorder, heat intolerance, speech and feeding difficulties. Because Megan is unable to chew solid food and swallow it, she has a continuous drip through a g-tube for all her nutrition. In addition to Megan, about 100,000 children have been diagnosed with the disease.

In order to help those with mitochondrial disease, awareness and funding is desperately needed. Music for Megan will increase awareness of the disease and provide support for those affected. Tickets are affordably priced at $15 per person or $35 for a family pass, and all proceeds will go to The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and a concert by Todd Fields and Steve Thomason will begin at 8:00 p.m. There will also be moonwalks, raffles, crafts and more, as well as great food such as The Varsity, Shane’s Rib Shack, Bruster’s Ice Cream and free popcorn.

Music for Megan will be a fun-filled evening for the whole family, and individual and corporate sponsorships are greatly appreciated. For more information about Megan or to purchase a ticket, visit www.meganshope.org.

In order to raise more awareness about the disease and Music for Megan, the Governor will present Megan with a proclamation stating that September 28 is Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Day on Tuesday, August 28 at the Capital. All friends and family are invited to come, as well as all mito families. It is encouraged that people arrive at the Capital at 9:30 a.m.
