[USPRwire, Fri Dec 14 2007] Ron Terwilliger, Chairman and CEO of Trammel Crow Residential, the largest developer of multi-family housing in the United States, will be this year’s keynote speaker at ULI Atlanta’s Urban Marketplace 2008, the fifth annual conference designed to create profitable mixed-income workforce housing ventures. The conference, which will also include panel discussions, project analyses, pitch sessions, exhibits and roundtable discussions, will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008.

A long-time advocate for affordable housing, Terwilliger recently made a $5 million gift to ULI to establish the ULI Terwilliger Center for Workforce Housing. Initially, the Center will focus on issues in three markets, including Atlanta.

According to Terwilliger, there are a huge number of fully-employed people, including teachers, firefighters, policemen, nurses, and government employees, who are being squeezed by the housing crunch and rising transportation costs. Providing affordable housing in the communities in which they work will benefit workers as well as the communities they serve by relieving some of the financial and infrastructure stresses caused by long commutes and debilitating traffic jams.

“We are delighted to have Ron as our keynote speaker,” says Jeff DuFresne, ULI Atlanta Executive Director. “His commitment to our community, his leadership skills and his strong relationships in both the public and private sectors have greatly benefited Atlanta in many ways, one of the most recent of which is bringing a WNBA franchise to the city, which was announced on October 17.”

As a district council of the Urban Land Institute, ULI Atlanta advances responsible land use policy and real estate development practice throughout greater Atlanta. The nonprofit group is supported by its members. They examine land use issues, impartially report their findings and convene forums to find solutions to complex land use problems.
