The “Cherry Bear” – Northern Michigan’s Newest Tourist Attraction

Traverse Bay Farms announces the latest tourist attraction in Northern Michigan – The Cherry Bear.

[USPRwire, Tue Oct 27 2009] Traverse Bay Farms announces the latest tourist attraction in Northern Michigan – The Cherry Bear.

Northern Michigan attracts people from all over the world and nothing represents the region more than the cherry. Tourists and residents alike now have another cherry-related attraction to proudly share with friends, family and co-workers. This newest attraction is the recently completed “Cherry Bear” from Traverse Bay Farms.

The “Cherry Bear” stands almost 10 feet tall and is carved from the stump of a recently cut-down 75-year old Maple tree. The chainsaw sculpture is of a loving bear holding a huge red cherry and sitting on top of a pedestal. To make the sculpture even more impressive is the cherry has a custom-made cherry stem with three hand painted cherry leaves.

The “Cherry Bear” was born when the 75-year old Maple tree in the front of the Traverse Bay Farms distribution center began to die. According to Andy LaPointe, Director of Marketing with Traverse Bay Farms, “The winter of 2008 was very hard on the Maple tree and many of the upper branches begun to die and fall to the ground. It soon became unsafe and the tree had to be cut down. With 75-years of history, we didn’t want to simply cut the tree to the ground so we began brainstorming on a way to keep this amazing tree around. From these brainstorming sessions the ‘Cherry Bear’ was born.”

Mr. LaPointe continued, “The ‘Cherry Bear’ has only been completed a few days and it has already attracted the attention of many. We have had a number of people stop and take photos of the ‘Cherry Bear’. We even had an individual from a movie crew stop by and ask about the ‘Cherry Bear’. According to Mr. LaPointe, people are already giving it nicknames, ”We have people giving it nicknames like the ‘Bellaire Cherry Bear’ and the ‘Traverse Bay Farms Cherry Bear’.”

Traverse Bay Farms offers complete line of superfruit supplements under the Fruit Advantage brand including tart cherry capsules, blueberry capsules, pomegranate capsules and its patented Cherry Prime formula. This patented formula combined tart cherry with glucosamine and chondroitin. The company also received a “Special Tribute” from the State of Michigan for winning national awards for its fruit salsas.
