Health & Wellbeing: New Free HIV Newsletter

New Free HIV Newsletter

As part of its continuing effort to educate the public about HIV / AIDS, The Peter Schick Foundation today announces the launch of HIV Alive, a new, free HIV+ email newsletter distributed semi-monthly to anybody who requests one here: http://schick-foundation.org/contacts/subscribe

[USPRwire, Sat Jul 26 2008] HIV Alive, at www.HIVAlive.org will examine the cutting edge of AIDS research world wide, translating scientific jargon into readily understood news for HIV patients and those who care for them. The motto of HIV Alive offers hope: “We won't just survive; we'll thrive - as we eradicate the virus.”

“We are truly at an exciting time in HIV research,” says Peter Schick, the foundation’s chairman and founder. “For the first time in twenty five years since the virus was identified as the cause of AIDS, we have the potential of not just prolonging a patient’s life through medication, but actually eradicating the virus through newly developing protocols.”

A successful surgeon and Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCLA, Peter Schick learned in 1986 that while performing an operation, he had become infected with the AIDS virus. Back then HIV infection was a death sentence, yet he did not despair. For decades he has fought preconceptions about the disease and has emerged as a prominent long term survivor. In 2003, he established The Peter Schick Foundation to provide education for all people regarding HIV / AIDS, assist HIV positive people to live longer, healthier lives and
research the protocols of early treatment of HIV.

Recognizing the Internet's unprecedented capability of providing the detail of information found in print with the expository impact of video, The Peter Schick Foundation will start to incorporate streaming into its educational efforts. The first will be web cast feeds from the first Latin American AIDS congress, the XVII International AIDS Conference, which runs August 3-8, 2008 in Mexico City. To watch go to http://schick-foundation.org/mexicocity Throughout the year, HIV Alive will also fold streaming videos into its newsletter issues.
