Eagan & Minneapolis Orthodontist Donates to School Library
The practice of Dr. Jennifer Eisenhuth, an Eagan and Minneapolis orthodontist, recently donated $1,000 to Woodland Elementary's library.
[USPRwire, Sat Mar 23 2013] Just like nonprofit organizations, there are lots more things elementary school libraries could do if they had more money.
The staff at Woodland Elementary School’s library gets to figure out what a little extra cash will do for them, thanks to a recent $1,000 donation from Eagan and Minneapolis orthodontist Dr. Jennifer Eisenhuth and her staff.
“We were pleased to be able to make this donation because many of us here are avid readers, and we hope this donation plants a seed in children to develop an affinity for reading,” said Eisenhuth, an adult and children orthodontics specialist.
The timing was right for the donation, because per-student spending has dropped by 1 percent in Minnesota since 2008, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
Libraries play a pivotal role in student education. A study produced by the Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries and released in 2012 by the New Jersey Association of School Librarians discovered New Jersey school libraries and librarians positively contribute to a school’s intellectual life, and the development of students who can function in complex and increasingly digital information environments, according to a NewJersey.com article.
This was a two-phase study, the second of which looked at effective school libraries and identified the criteria that enabled those libraries to flourish and contribute to their schools’ learning agendas.
The study found:
• School libraries serve as learning centers connected to classroom instruction
• School libraries act as a launch pad for student-initiated inquiry
“This is a New Jersey study, but I honestly believe it’s indicative of school libraries throughout the country,” said Eisenhuth, a braces expert who also offers Invisalign treatment to patients who are good candidates. “We look forward to donating to other worthy schools in the coming years.”
