McCollum meets, greets, maybe even contemplates teaming up with independent rival Imperato
Even though on the ballot for governor under Florida’s no party affiliation label, Daniel Imperato chooses to call himself independent as a continuation from his 2008 campaign for president. Back then he felt a calling to serve his country by questioning the motives and platform points of the major political parties. Now he is pleased to have the opportunity to give back to Florida and would consider himself fortunate to assist the new governor in the next four years should the voters not select him.
[USPRwire, Wed Aug 04 2010] Rival candidates crossed paths at a campaign stop in Tampa. The result was an exchange of mutual respect and recognition of overlapping strengths that each offered the voters of Florida.
After Independent candidate Daniel Imperato was warmly greeted by Bill McCollum, he shared his impressions of Florida’s Attorney General. “McCollum is a very nice, low key, sound gentleman. He has served honorably as attorney general.”
Imperato agreed with Florida Chamber board chairman Steve Halverson who declared, Bill McCollum’s experience, dedication and character are often overlooked in the sound bite world of modern politics and news.”
Daniel Imperato continued the discussion, “At this point, I can support him for the primary nomination, but then come November we will be competitors. In the meantime, he seems like he would be reliable enough for Floridian residents to trust their safety and security. As long as he represents an establishment party however, we will remain rivals.”

Imperato also spoke about the others in the primary race, declaring one as a self-professed maverick, “when what the state needs now is a sure and stable governor. Combine my huge depth of world experience with McCollum and our state benefits with either candidate in Tallahassee. We both want to the state to grow and close the growing budget deficit with sound business economics.”
The tone of Imperato’s discussions leads one to wonder whether what a team of them both serving in Tallahassee would look like. Imperato did confirm that if McCollum does not prevail in the primary then he would invite McCollum to join his ticket as lieutenant governor.
“We would make a great team with my experience worldwide and Bill’s legal background. We could do a great job and probably get elected along with Charlie Crist joining the independents in the US Senate. Be first Florida. Make history with independents crashing the big party’s parties!”
On what position he could assume if McCollum wins the August primary, Imperato deferred to Mr. McCollum with these words, “Maybe Bill would get a sense of the impact I can make as his lieutenant governor. And should he not prevail, I would be honored to select him as Lt. Governor and govern with confidence that we can make a great team.
Regardless Imperato personally told the Attorney General that if he won his nomination battle, Daniel would be available to help him and the state and said he would do a great job helping the state no matter who won.
