Imperato, Independent Presidential Candidate, Speaks About Article III of Geneva Convention, War Cri
While participating in the General Assembly in New York, Leading Independent Presidential Candidate, Daniel Imperato, spoke out regarding Article III of the Geneva Convention and the response from Senator John McCain (R-AZ).
[USPRwire, Fri Sep 22 2006] “I call on the American people, the people of the world, and the regulatory bodies, to pay attention to this unique situation in history pertaining to the Geneva Convention and War Crimes,” said Imperato.
Imperato felt that new emphasis needed to be placed on this important provision of the Geneva Convention, especially in light of Senator McCain’s comments.
“I understand that Senator McCain has had his trying times of a life and death situation during the Vietnam War. I sympathize for him along with the public acknowledgement that I have not experienced such and don't have any intention to speak down at the terrible experience that Senator McCain had. However, I do stand up today to state clearly that both President George W. Bush our leader and Senator John McCain are both wrong.”
The Geneva Convention and Article III, in Imperato’s view, was built upon tradition methods of war between nations, and does not resemble today’s current military and geopolitical landscape.
“When I am the President of the United States in 2008, appointed by the people of the USA, I would support the following fact: the Geneva Convention was written and planned during times of traditional war. The Geneva Convention’s rules and regulations were developed for POWs that were captured during the normal course of a war between two countries. Combat was based on traditional weaponry and capabilities from both sides in accordance with military technology at the time. Today we must recognize that the Geneva Convention was adopted based upon those traditional war times.”
While our President, George W. Bush, and Senator McCain both have their own opinions on Geneva Convention, Imperato expressed his own solution to expand and write an amendment for punishing terrorists.
“We are now dealing with terrorist organizations. I do not agree with either George W. Bush, shut down Geneva Convention rules and regulations program, or with Senator McCain, who believes that our President is wrong that we need to show the world that we have compassion for enemy prisoners of war. I say that the Geneva Convention needs to be expanded and an amendment needs to be written pertaining to the specific rules and regulations for prisoners of terrorism.”
Imperato went on to explain how current terrorism tactics need to be dealt with.
“Let's face it, the terrorists are cutting off heads, playing football with them on the streets, blowing up buildings using human shields and aircraft for bombs. We have genocide in Darfur, and next it will be chemicals and biological attacks. We as a nation and as the leader of the free world must collectively and aggressively convince the entire globe and its leadership to adopt specific verbiage pertaining to dealing with these criminal terrorists. They are using unconventional methods to kill innocent people. Therefore, we need to adopt an article that addresses dealing with the terrorists in an equal yet untraditional manner in accordance with their actions.”
Imperato also acknowledged that potentially our soldiers are at greater risk these days when dealing with enemies of our nation with or without the Geneva Convention protection.
“I agree that the prisoners of the United States and our soldiers are at greater risk for stronger interrogation with or without the Geneva Convention. In Article III, when they are captured as terrorists, if they are not tortured physically, then they are tortured mentally and emotionally. Therefore, our soldiers must understand that the game is tougher and they must become stronger and better soldiers to make sure that they don't get captured.”
Imperato concluded his remarks with the following, “People must understand that the rules of the Geneva Convention were written in the past and there is new war on terrorism that needs to be addressed, evaluated in accordance with the punishment that we're all taking from these lowlife sick terrorist personalities that deserve nothing but to have their head cut off.”
