Winning Whiskies

Wending their way to New York are International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) who will be showing a range of whiskies defined by flavour spectrums at Whisky-Live there this Wednesday.

[USPRwire, Mon Apr 02 2007] Exhibiting at Whisky-Live in New York for the first time in their global tour, the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) have arranged their tasting based on flavour spectrums.

Said Lesley Gray, IWSC Marketing & Public Relations Manager,
“Rather more than a short shot of Scotch, on our IWSC stand at Whisky-Live there is the chance to learn how to discern the differences between a range of whiskies by style profile.

On tasting is a selection from across the main geographical regions, within which you can then be led through a discussion on the impact on flavour from influence such as the local water sources used, plus the role of peat, wood-smoke and finally the maturation in cask. The latter has many variations where blenders have experimented with types of wood, degree of charring and using barrels which have contained port or burgundy as well as the more traditional and most diverse offering from the many styles of sherry casks.
As the leading International Wine & Spirit Competition, and hosted by our competition director Frances Horder - a member of the prestigious Keepers of the Quaich - we have on our stand both the knowledge and enthusiasm to discuss the intricacies behind our award-winning whiskies at Whisky-Live.
These are all brands that have triumphed in the IWSC 2006 awards, for which we had more than 300 whisky entries.

Come and meet us and enjoy a snapshot of the best of Scottish whisky”.

Lowland Malt - Auchentoshan 10 Year Old
Island Malt - Laphraoig 30 Year Old
Speyside - a'bundah Cask Strength

Editors notes:
The International Wine and Spirit Competition was founded in 1969 and is the premier competition of its kind in the world. Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of the world's best wines, spirits and liqueurs.
All entries of wines, spirits and liqueurs are blind tasted in groups divided by variety, region and vintage as necessary. Awards are made on a points system and sponsored trophies are presented in selected categories. Technical analysis is carried out on Gold, Gold (Best in Class), Silver (Best in Class) award winning wines, spirits and liqueurs to ensure that all products are technically sound and will be of the same high quality when they reach the consumer as they were when our judging panels originally tasted them.
The Competition is supported by a group of vice presidents made up of some of the most influential men and women in the trade, including Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Miguel Torres, Marchese Piero Antinori, Robert Drouhin, Robert Mondavi and May de Lencquesaing.
