SAMPLE CORSICAN CRAFT BEERS FROM BRASSERIE PIETRA AT THE FANCY FOOD SHOW IN SAN FRANCISCO THIS MONTH
[USPRwire, Fri Jan 09 2009] Corsican craft beers from Brasserie Pietra will be at the Fancy Food Show in San Francisco, Jan. 18 to 20, at booths 3631 and 3635 on the French Pavilion in the South Hall of the Moscone Center. Featuring regional ingredients and putting Corsica on the map for beer, the brewery will feature two brews recently made available for purchase in North America, Pietra and Colomba.
The Brasserie Pietra is the first brewery in the history of Corsica. It is situated above a groundwater table of Acqua Blanca spring water in Furiani, Upper Corsica. Pietra's beers are inspired by Corsica's regional ingredients, such as the sweet chesnut, picked from the Castagniccia forest in Upper Corsica and native herbs and wildflowers from the maquis -- the dense scrubland that covers Corsica's mountains and hills.
The brewery's namesake Pietra beer (6% ABV) is hand-crafted using artisanal methods with selected malts, hops, and Corsican sweet chesnut flour as prime ingredients. The chesnut is mixed into the mash, and the beer is fermented for two weeks in a temperature-controlled room. Colomba (5% ABV) is the brewery's traditional white beer. This unfiltered and bottom-fermented beverage is brewed from barley, wheat, and herbs such as arbutus berry, myrtle, and juniper. Available bottled or kegged, these beers should be served chilled at 40° to 45°F in a tulip glass to best preserve the aroma and flavors.
Brasserie Pietra was founded in 1996 by the husband-and-wife team of Dominique and Armelle Sialelli, inspired by the idea of developing a project for the future in Corsica. It has became the leading French regional speciality brewer and has expanded into Italy, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.
In addition to exhibiting at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco this January, Brasserie Pietra will also be participating in the Spring Beers release in Ontario beginning in March 2009. Coordinated by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), the Pietra beer will be among several new beers available on a trial basis to the Ontario market as part of the LCBO's promotional program that introduces new product to liquor stores every quarter.
Brasserie Pietra will also attend the New York edition of the Fancy Food Show from June 28 to 30.
