Olympics Get Whipped Soundly by Basketball Say 9 Out of 10 Restaurant and Bar Owners

Survey finds the Olympics underperform in terms of bringing in restaurant and bar customers.

[USPRwire, Tue Feb 28 2006] A recent survey conducted by The American Liquor License Exchange, a California based food and beverage industry consulting firm says the Olympics low ratings are not bringing in any gold for many business owners.

When asked a series of questions about what sporting event, the Olympics or basketball, brings in the biggest crowd, basketball gets the nod 90% of the time.

“The Olympics? Forget about it.” said one restaurant owner. “Heck, my regulars like golf on TV better than they do the winter Olympics.”

NBC ratings fell sharply to a low of 50 percent of the 2002 Winter Olympics.

“Nobody complained when we switched the channel” a bartender offered when asked about customers viewing requests.

Are the winter Olympics in trouble? It sure looks that way. American Idol nearly doubled the Olympics rating every time it was on the air.

The average age of folks who view American Idol (21-49) is roughly the same demographic targeted by most bars and restaurants.
