[USPRwire, Fri Jan 15 2010] Château de Gaudou French wines, vintages such as Tradition 2007, “1733” 2008 and Renaissance 2007 are all of Cahors Protected Appellation of Origin (AOC), made from Malbec grapes. They are elegant, fruity and easy to drink, and a perfect companion for any meal. These wines retail between $13 and $25 in the United States. In Canada, only the Tradition 2007 vintage is available. A 35-hectare vineyard, the Château de Gaudou is located at Vire-sur-Lot in the Midi-Pyrénées, a region in southwestern France nestled between the Atlantic Ocean, the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. Its Cahors wines are exported throughout Europe and have now crossed the Atlantic.

The Tradition 2007 vintage, made of 80% Malbec, Merlot and Tannat grapes, is a very fruity, colorful AOC Cahors wine with high tannin content. In addition to that range, Château de Gaudou offers its 1733 and Renaissance vintages, made of 100% Malbec grapes. 1733 is a reference to the birth date of the Durou family vineyard. Extremely refined, round, silken, thick and fruity, it exudes an aftertaste blending strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and black currant aromas. The Renaissance vintage is the ultimate keeper. It blends with the most refined fare, spicy dishes or with cheese. It suits poultry or game to perfection. These wines are sold in the United States for $13 to $25.

Acknowledged as one of Europe’s oldest wines, Cahors wine enjoys a Protected Appellation of Origin (AOC), whose rules are among France’s most demanding, with a prominent place given in particular to Malbec grapes. Scientifically referred to as the Cot, Malbec is an outstanding grape variety, which is also related to the Tannat variety. Following fermentation, it produces a very dark juice, high in tannin and lasting aromas. Blackberry, liquorice and blackc urrant are all part of its symphony of flavors.

For over two centuries and seven generations, the Durou family has owned and been producing wine on the Château de Gaudou. Concerned with the environment, they have chosen reasoned farming. Accordingly, they apply a variety of methods, putting grape quality before quantity: controlled grass-covering, debudding (removing unnecessary young sprouts), leaf removal (removing old leaves), and full control of the vineyard growing cycle (green harvesting performed in summer).
