[USPRwire, Tue Sep 01 2009] Meet the innovative French green packaging industry and attend the French-American “How to Go Green in Packaging” inaugural symposium on December 14, 2009, at the prestigious New York Academy of Sciences. With the support of the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), the prestigious New York Academy of Sciences will host 100 packaging professionals to focus on sustainable packaging operations. The symposium will include a general informational session, workshops, and B-to-B meetings. Please register to attend by Dec. 7 to marie.vavassori@ubifrance.fr.

Besides the general session about “the Green Strategy in the Manufacturing process,” participants will choose to attend workshops related to either food, cosmetic or pharmaceutical packaging. Once the B-to-B meetings are closed, don’t miss the opportunity to meet international partners in the green packaging industry.

France is the United States’ top client in terms of products, spending 62,790,107 euros on French goods in 2008. With sales of nearly 22.7 billion euros in 2007, the French packaging sector composed of 3,000 firms occupies a key place in the French economic and industrial landscape.

One after the other, French packaging companies are making committments to the sustainable development. This summer Evian, one of the leading French water companies owned by DANNON, joined the ranks. Evian signed a deal that started June 23, 2009, to source recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material from a newly opened plant owned by France Plastique Recyclage (FPR). This will prevent between 30,000 to 45,000 additional tons of CO2 being released per year. Indeed, despite the global economic downturn, people’s environmental awareness, consumers included, continue to grow. The French packaging industry is following down this path toward products that respect both the environment and the needs of consumers.

It is clear that the green packaging industry in France presents valuable growth opportunities. Sustainable development and eco-design remain key factors of innovation for 60% of buyers and 57% of packaging manufacturers. On the American side, the demand for green packaging is projected to increase by 3.4% annually to $43.9 billion in 2013.
