The Poetics of Genealogy
Iana Qesnell (Mexico) A project informed by creative objects that were made by each of the four families, including herself, that form the genealogical line of the artists American lineage. These objects, spanning roughly 70 years, are recreated by the artist as drawings and occupied for the duration of the exhibition by the two surviving members of this line, the artist and her mother. A breed of mapping is included in these drawings, in the form of collectors items, which trace the artists lineage from Ellis Island, New York in 1914 to present day Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
