RAI International to cover “Italian Americans and Federal Hill,” ITALIAN HERITAGE CELEBRATION STARTS
RAI International, the Italian News Service has announced plans to attend the movie event “Italian Americans and Federal Hill” to be held this weekend at the Columbus Theater in Providence, Rhode Island.
[USPRwire, Fri Sep 29 2006] RAI International, the Italian News Service has announced plans to attend the movie event “Italian Americans and Federal Hill” to be held this weekend at the Columbus Theater in Providence, Rhode Island.
Prompted by inquiries from Italians, Italo-Australians, Italo-Americans and others from around the world, RAI has requested and received permission to attend and report on the event for the distant Italian communities.
“The event is nearly sold out, with requests for tickets coming in daily,” Producer Jon Raben said to WHJJ host Helen Glover today. “We are making the DVD boxed set with commemorative book available early starting tomorrow because we just can't accommodate the demand for more tickets.”
“Posters, DVD's, and more will be available in the Columbus Theater lobby during the event tomorrow” Raben said. “We have special guests attending each night, and a special surprise guest coming on Saturday evening.”
Tonight, the Italo-American Club in Providence also plans to celebrate with members gathering at the club for pre-event festivities, then walking down Broadway to the theater and returning to the club after the show for more celebration “Festa Italiana.”
The film event includes a wine tasting, Italian pastries, an accomplished Mandolin trio and an Italian strolling troubadour. The program is a soft cover commemorative book chock full of photos, old assessors maps with family names and informative articles that supplement the movie.
Celebration continues in the days immediately following the movie, when a comprehensive free exhibit celebrating Italian communities throughout Rhode Island during October. The presentation complements the movie which supplied some of the artifacts on display.
Complete with photographs, the historical artifacts in vignette displays illustrate the rich heritage and traditions from Italy in family life, work life, community life, and religious celebrations. The display is open to the public at the URI Providence Campus Gallery 80 Washington Street in Providence . Several receptions are planned to add to the display celebration.
