[USPRwire, Thu Nov 30 2006] For the fourth year in a row, the National Festival of the West, has been honored as "The Best" Western Festival in the country by True West Magazine. The next edition of the classic event is set for March 15-18 at Rawhide, a recreated Western town located in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Festival, begun 17 years ago by Western aficionado and horse enthusiast Mary Brown of Phoenix, has been consistently honored as one of the Top 100 Events in the country and has been a favorite of True West Magazine readers, according to Joel Klasky, associate publisher.

"Organizers have put a lot of work into the Festival and the results are plain to see," said Klasky. "This is the premier Western event for visitors and participants alike."

Annually the National Festival of the West draws 50,000 to 60,000 lovers of America's Western heritage and cowboy culture to enjoy poetry, music, movie stars, film screenings, mounted shooting competition, Western artwork, cowboy collectibles and authentic chuck wagon cooking. People come from as far away as Germany, Japan and Europe to enjoy the event.

"It is an incredible honor to be recognized by True West Magazine and its readers," said Brown. "They are the authorities on the Old West and to have them single us out as the very best festival in the country is exciting and humbling."

Also in the running for "The Best" honor were such events as the SASS-Founders Ranch in New Mexico, Fort Bridger Rendezvous in Wyoming, San Clarita Cowboy Festival in California and the Cedar City Cowboy Gathering in Utah.

"Of course, we are very honored with this award, but it's not really about who comes out on top," said Brown. "All of the events are doing their best to keep the history and culture of the American West alive and that's what it’s really all about."

Information on "The Best" honor will appear in True West Magazine's March issue that will be available on newsstands Jan. 23.

Brown's love for horses and all things Western has had international significance as well, as she was recently honored in Germany with the “Horse Spirit Award” at the first International Horse Movie Festival at Ungerhausen near Munich.
Admission to the Festival of the West is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and $4 for children, with those under age 5 admitted free.
