America's Next Top Model, America's Next Top Role Model?
Some think Top Model's newest winner has promise to be a positive role model.
[USPRwire, Sat May 20 2006] Danielle Evans was crowned America's Next Top Model on May 17th's season finale. The 20-year old babysitter from Little Rock Arkansas faced many hurdles during the competition. Her biggest obstacles were, as pointed out by former supermodel and show creator Tyra Banks, her heavy southern accent and her gap.
The latter was made 'acceptable' during the show after a visit to the dentist. Danielle strongly opposed Tyra's suggestion. Ultimately, Danielle could not let that stand in the way of her chance of winning the competition and fulfilling her childhood dream of being a supermodel. She's wanted to become a supermodel since she was 12 years old. So, she met Tyra half way and got her gap partially closed.
Towards the end of the competition, Tyra again pointed out Danielle's other 'flaw'. In her best country accent, Tyra informs Danielle that she needs to get rid of it.
Megan, a visitor of the Celebs We Love And Hate blog agreed with one of the website's bloggers and ANTM junkie, Nicole, who wrote "I really liked [Danielle] and her attitude. I especially adored the fact that she didn't want to get her gap fixed."
In a section of the website called Love/Hate mail, Megan wrote to the bloggers, "As soon as I watched the episode with Danielle protesting Tyra's suggestion to get her gap closed, I started rooting for Danielle. Other people obviously saw the space between her teeth as unattractive. But, she felt confident about her appearance and did not want to change at all. I admire and respect her for that."
Nicole of Celebs We Love And Hate says, "if marketed properly, Danielle can be an inspiration to young girls. Our youth desperately need positive role models, something that is not reflected in today's celebrities."
