Online Degree Can Create Rewarding Non-Glamour Career
Online degree programs that lack glamour and glitz can result in the most lucrative, stable, and rewarding careers.
[USPRwire, Sat Sep 01 2007] Although glamorous and unusual career choices are always interesting to students, the Bureau of Labor Statistics' research indicates that the best bet for rewarding careers may be following a more traditional path. According to the BLS, some of the fastest growing and most lucrative careers include accounting, bookkeeping, administrative services and healthcare. Each of these fields promise to have steady work, greater job stability, advancement opportunities and above average salaries.
Darrel Hanbury, Director of Admissions at Virginia College Online, notes, “We have tremendous response from potential students for our Accounting Specialist and Private Sector Accounting online degree programs. Many people who are looking for stable careers with above average pay are interested in these areas.”
Accounting has traditionally been considered a rather staid career with little variety and few options. In today's global economy, however, the increase in the need for accountants and bookkeepers has been matched by the variety of interesting career options available. In 2004, one in four bookkeeping and accounting clerks worked part-time, an appealing prospect for many individuals looking for a professional career with scheduling flexibility. Add in the possibility of above-average wages in entry-level positions and numerous opportunities for advancement and you have a formula for a lucrative and rewarding career.
Hanbury also notes that specialty degrees in traditional fields are increasingly popular with online students, including the Healthcare Reimbursement degree and a two-year degree in Administrative Office Management. Healthcare and administrative jobs, while commonly perceived as ordinary, offer unique advancement opportunities.
Office administration professionals can move from clerical positions to the corporate offices in a relatively short time. Those with administrative office management training can be promoted to positions such as Executive Assistant quickly. According to the BLS, clerical and office management is the largest employment category, with advancement opportunities to match.
