Gene M. Burd, Managing director of the Kyiv office of the Law Firm of Marks, Sokolov & Burd has been appointed Vice Chair of the American Bar Association International Law Russia/Eurasia Committee.
[USPRwire, Mon Aug 16 2010] Philadelphia lawyer Gene M. Burd has been appointed Vice Chair of the American Bar Association International Law Russia/Eurasia Committee. He has also been appointed a member of the Steering Group for the International Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of International Law.
Gene M. Burd is a Managing Director of the Kyiv, Ukraine office of the law firm of Marks, Sokolov & Burd. He focuses his practice on representation of private clients in commercial disputes involving Russia and Ukraine including global litigation management, litigation in the United States, and international commercial arbitration. Among his major accomplishments are: successful defense of an Ohio steel mill against a contract claim in the ICC arbitration in Paris, representation of minority shareholders of a major Ukrainian ferroalloy plant in the diversion of profits claim filed in a US court, defense of a US coal trading company in an ICC arbitration in Geneva. Mr. Burd also represented international client in a number of transactional and investment matters. He is fully Russian/English bilingual.
Mr. Burd served as an Adjunct Professor at the Rutgers School of Law in Camden, New Jersey where he taught a course in International Litigation. Mr. Burd is a past co-chair of the International Law Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association. He also represents the firm at the Board of Directors of the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council, an organization dedicated to the development of business links between the United States and Ukraine.
