The Region on Target for Vision 2015’s Job Creation Goal

3,158 net new primary jobs were created in Northern Kentucky in 2008.

[USPRwire, Fri Mar 12 2010] Vision 2015’s goal of creating 50,000 new jobs in Northern Kentucky by the year 2015 is well on its way to becoming a reality. In the recently released Bureau of Labor Statistics data for Northern Kentucky's Net New Primary Industry Jobs, 3,158 net new primary jobs were created in Northern Kentucky in the 2008 calendar year, well exceeding the goal of 1,430 net new jobs and putting the region 33% ahead of the primary industry job creation goal from 2006 to 2009.
Further good news is evident in that these were high-paying jobs, averaging $73K per year per job. Most of these high paying jobs were created by Fidelity Investments, which opened its office campus off Howe Drive Road in Covington last year.

“While this is good news for what actually happened in 2008, the economic downtown will most likely affect progress for 2009,” said Dan Tobertge, President & CEO of Tri-ED. “Announcements of new projects and new jobs are significantly reduced along with a high number of layoffs. When the data is assessed in August of next year, the hope is that the "head-start" in primary industry job creation will be enough to carry the region through.”

In addition to new job creation, Tri-ED and Northern Kentucky University’s LaunchPad program have been working together over the past year to increase Northern Kentucky business retention and expansion by profiling companies to determine both growth potential and inhibitors to growth. LaunchPad will produce its first official report in September that will include data collected in the first year of LaunchPad, along with a comparison of national data. LaunchPad has also been working on strengthening relationships and alignments throughout the region with organizations such as the Greater Cincinnati Workforce Network, One Stop of Northern Kentucky, and the Northern Kentucky Workforce Investment Board.
