[USPRwire, Wed Feb 15 2006] The US Doctors for Africa Gala Dinner on April 6th, 2006 at the World Bank is our "Annual Gala Dinner" sponsored by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as other Corporate sponsors. Honorees of the event are names such as Senator Bill Frist, Peter Dolan, CEO of Bristol-Myers Squibb as well as Dr. Agnes Binagwago and Dr. Erik Fleischman. Over 500 people are expected to attend, including: World Bank Executives, members of Congress and the Senate, African Ambassadors, representatives of USAID and HERSA, a delegation from the African-Union, representatives from the United Nations, Doctors, Nurses, Corporate Executives, and Hollywood Celebrities. Former President Clinton and Senator Clinton are also expected to attend.
US Doctors For Africa (USDFA) was formed to specifically mobilize the American medical manpower in order to help provide "free" medical services for the people of Africa. Besides providing direct medical care, we also work toward improving the infrastructure of local Hospitals and Clinics in partnership with the local NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) as well as the health-ministers of several African nations. In addition to meeting our core mission of providing assistance to the People of Africa, we often provide medical assistance and supplies to more local disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Frances. Currently, we have over 1800 volunteer medical Doctors and Nurses willing and ready to help the people of Africa. We have completed missions in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Uganda and the Bahamas. We are also in the process of starting new missions in Ghana, Malawi, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Africa, Sierra Leone, and Swaziland.
This event provides a perfect venue for those who truly care about the well-being of Africa and its people. As you probably know, the World Bank and the IMF have a HUGE influence and unbelievable power over how much money is being allocated to helping the developing countries, including the African Continent. Prior to the main Gala event, there will be a reception for the VIPs. This intimate VIP event will provide Ms. Union and other well known and respected Celebrities a unique opportunity to have direct personal discussions with influential executives of the World Bank and IMF and high-ranking government officials; and provide the perfect setting for Ms. Union and other supporters to motivate the decision makers of the funds, already ear-marked for African assistance, to be more pro-active and more expedient in getting the funds to those in need on the African Continent.
Commencement will begin at 6:30 p.m., with cocktails and light fare until 7:30 p.m. Dinner will begin at 7:45 p.m.
