Green Car Journal has chosen the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid as 2008 Green Car of the Year. One of the most important factors that helped this SUV win this award is that its mileage is better than that of all other V8’s to the tune of 30 percent.

Another critical benchmark in which this model scored over its competitors is the extent to which mileage was up in places where most of the driving is done –in city conditions. Here, it consumed nearly half the fuel its rivals did. These included Chevrolet Malibu; Mazda Tribute; Saturn Aura and Nissan Altima.
This award was arrived at by a jury that consisted of some prominent names in environment and industry, like Carroll Shelby, Jay Leno, Carl Pope (Sierra Club); Christopher Flavin (Worldwatch Institute); Jonathan Lash (World Resources Institute), and Jean-Michel Cousteau (Ocean Futures Society).
Other factors this jury took into consideration while choosing a vehicle for this award were the newness of this technology with the manufacturer, volume of production of these vehicles, and the extent to which such environmentally-focused technologies could lead to further improvement and implementation in other vehicles.
Along with the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, the five other hybrid models were shortlisted after an elimination round. In the initial round, there were 12 models.
