BMW set to enter SUV market with 2010 X5 M & X6 M

Ending months of speculation, BMW has revealed the engine size, power output and styling details of the new X5 M & X6 M models.

The automaker, extending its M treatment from cars to SUVs, has revealed more details on 2010 BMW X5 M & X6 M ending months of speculation.

For the first time BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system makes its way to the M products enhancing the performance and driving dynamics of the all-new BMW X5 M & X6 M models. Both models are powered by a newly-developed 4.4-liter V8 M engine that deliver 555 hp at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1500 to 5,650 rpm. This new M engine is the world’s first with a pulse-tuned exhaust manifold encompassing both rows of cylinders combined with high-performance twin-scroll twin turbo technology. The updated engine is paired with a 6-speed M Sports Automatic transmission which offers the choice of automatic mode as well as Sport and M Manual modes. The combined effort of the drivetrain helps the new BMW X5 M & X6 M models to accelerate from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The athletic character and amazing performance abilities of the BMW X5 M and X6 M result from levels of development never before applied to this type of vehicles.
