The Million Link Project Gains Steam

After its official launch less than two weeks ago, The Million Link Project, accessible online at www.MillionLinkProject.com, is steadily working towards its goal of accumulating 1,000,000 visitor-submitted links.

[USPRwire, Fri Apr 14 2006] After its official launch nearly two weeks ago, The Million Link Project, accessible online at www.MillionLinkProject.com, is steadily working towards its goal of accumulating 1,000,000 visitor-submitted links.

The project, which aims to discover exactly how long it takes to collect 1,000,000 links, is the brainchild of NW Fast, an entrepreneurial 21-year old university student and self-proclaimed serial daydreamer attending college in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

"I'd like to create a snapshot of the Internet's current state to show future computer users what the online landscape was like in 2006," says Fast.

He continues by adding, "Don't get me wrong - I don't want to make this project seem like a "for the good of the world" thing and I most certainly don't want to march around like some kind of Internet savior, because I'm most definitely not. I just want to see if this project can really come to fruition."

Each link submitted for inclusion in the project costs $1, a portion of which will go towards ensuring that the project's site is accessible online until at least 2011.

However, Fast is quick to silence critics who cite The Million Link Project as just another get-rich-quick scheme.

Says Fast, “This project is a far cry from a get-rich-quick scheme. Even if 500 new web sites are added per day, the project would not eclipse the 1,000,000 link mark for approximately five and a half years!”

To keep track of the The Million Link Project's progress, the site features a constantly-updated counter which displays the total time elapsed since the project’s initial launch.

The Million Link Project does not currently place any limitations on the types of sites it allows and does not limit the amount of listings one can purchase. According to the project’s web site, the only sites which are not welcome for inclusion are those deemed to be obscene and/or those containing adult material.

Fast is confident that the project will eventually achieve its goal of 1,000,000 links; however, he is cautious when issuing any predictions concerning the project’s timeframe.

“The Million Link Project is the first of its kind, so there isn’t any benchmark with which to gauge its success. The question isn’t ‘if’, but ‘when’ – I think it will be interesting to see.”
